Local WalMart has Uniflame 22.5 Weber clones for $35.

Would this make an acceptable donor for grates and/or dome top lid for a UDS build?

I've built half a dozen using these grills. Bend a thin strip of metal to go around the inside of the drum and put the lid on top. The ones I bought even had hinges that I used with a little modification. Get it done, and post some food pics!!

I used that for my uds but it was the one with the handle in front. I wanted to make a hinged dome lid from the existing brackets and I did though had to improvise with the nuts and bolts.
For the fit go to home depot and around the hardware section I found thin strip of metal around 6 feet or so I think and believe was 1 1/2 inches wide. From there measure it around the inside of the drum and cut it off. Use 1/2 inch bolts. Looked something like this. I just wish I had it raised up a bit and would have been more flush then could have place a rope around it like one guy here did and won't leak at all...

I'm not much of a fabricator, so I'm sure this will be a very slow process for me with tons of questions.
BriGreentea, it looks like you added the metal band slightly higher than the lip of the drum on the inside? Purpose?

Inside of the lip of the lid is just a bit too small for the original drum.......
Strip of metal inside creates a NEW smaller diameter, so the lid will fit snug......
