I know the topic about kitchen knives has been covered every which way , but I was wondering what you guys and gals use for general every day use that you carry around all the time.
new one I just bought: without the serrated edge
a Kershaw Scallion

wnkt, I carry a small benchmade all the time.
Occasionally I'll add a leatherman to the mix if I think I'll need it.
Actually I'll leave the house without my wallet but, I'll go back for the knife. |

I was wanting to go small for a knife. I have carried one since I got out of high school and I feel nekked without one. I always had a normal folding knife like this one:
Although I had a newer version, I have my grandfathers that looks exactly like that.
I wanted to go to one that would be easier to get out and open and close....fishing around in a pocket to find one....then using two hands to open it was getting to be a hassle when I had to use it many times a day. Also the chance of closing on my fingers with heavy use
So I got a lockback knife with a pocket clip....easy to get to and operate one handed....I went through a couple different ones and I liked them.
Now I work in an office and if I pull out a knife that is 3inches + of blade, I was worried someone would go crazy and shout "HES GOT A KNIFE!! "
So I decided I better go smaller....so I got the Kewshaw. It has the "Assisted Opening" as well, which is only a different way to say switchblade. But it is legal...I hope anyways

These days it's usually a Stanley retractable utility knife in my back pocket. Way back when I was in the Navy, I always had a 4" Buck 110 on my belt. _________________ I was taught to respect my elders. It's just getting harder to find them.

The kids got me this one a few years ago.

Then I upgraded to this one when I couldn't find the previous one, I should have looked in the jacket I had been wearing the last time I used it! DUH!

They are both easy to use one handed, though the button to turn out the blade can catch sometimes in jeans pockets if facing into the thigh, if you face it out, you cover the button on the blade with your hand reaching for it, it also falls to the thumb as you pull it out and with a flick the blade is out.
I like the quality feel to the knife. _________________ Here's a change Robert.

I too carry a Kershaw Scallion with the serrated blade. It is an excellent knife. It holds an edge very well. My only complaint is the cheap plastic safety lock broke quickly. _________________ "if you cant cook it in bacon grease it ain't worth eating"

I keep a Gerber skinning knife with a gut hook in the truck and a Spyderco fully serrated with a thumb hole open in the car, both razor sharp. _________________ The Demolition Man - Demolition Man BBQ |

It's not much but I've had a Victorinox key-chain knife ever since I could drive. The key is Victorinox. Their blades are very sharp, easy to sharpen, and include only the useful tools. I have a scissors, tiny phillips head driver, flat head driver, bottle opener, and of course the knife. The plus is that I get them for free from one of our vendors. _________________ In the shadows of Lambeau |

I have one of those, the opening is pretty stiff for me. and the thumb stub is pretty rough on my ham hands going into the pocket, I took a file to it to smooth out the rough edges. _________________ Electricity can be dangerous. I had a large assortment of pocket knives (some 200+) of assorted brands and sizes and gave them all (except one) to my son before my move to TX this month. Hopefully he will enjoy them and pass them along to his son (he is only 7 now) when the time comes.
the one I carry is actually a Cutco folding knife but holds a good edge and easy to sharpen or I can send it back to factory (lifetime warranty) to have sharpened for free....if I want to let go of it for that long. _________________ Where rumors end and legend lives forever... |

I have a Skeletool in my car for emergencies...never know when you need some pliers or a screw driver. _________________ Electricity can be dangerous. My nephew tried to stick a penny into a plug. I never considered a Leatherman until the Skeletool hit the market. I do enough running and crawling around that i have torn sheaths up or hung up on chit that i like to be able to pocket carry most anything that is necessary. _________________ #3 LIAR

I've toted a knife in my pocket everyday since I was 6, except for the time I was in boot camp. These two are in my pocket most of the time on different days.
