Life got in the way of me commin around as much as I used to. so when I do comment, it is because something lit a fire in me.
There are threads that I have started to comment on and after 30 minutes of typing and editing, I hit back on my browser and walk away. ("the sign said" is an example)

JAllen, if you wanted a interesting life, you sure have it brother.
I very much enjoy following this thread. It's part documentary, part spy novel, part soap opera, and all autobiography.
Best of luck to you and your family. I'll make sure to keep checking in, you can't make this kinda stuff up. |

Tuesday again and a new weeks starts.
Our chili and sausages are going pretty well, and we're happy about that. Also our dessert business is moving along well.
Vern's been in as usual, but now he's taken up the bass guitar, so there's a lot of booming going on as he's learning the Texas Shuffle.
Been reading "Buried Alive," the bio of Janis Joplin with my first pair of reading glasses.
Daughtry's "Tennessee Line," blasting again on the Hi-Fi as I'm alone in the cold, but warming up main hall. _________________ Reverse flow Sterno can

On an interesting life..
What's in an interesting life?
Really, we're only here for a short time, why go through it any other way? Well, everyone gets to choose their own path, and many choose the easy one, the well-traveled one, the one lined with thornless roses and smiling faces of the kindred, and silk and sunshine.
I've been asking myself this question for decades as I've undergone the what I consider the ultimate search.
(I just walked through the kitchen and was hit by the well-received oak smoke from the bbq preparing for today's load of raw.)
I have to put "faith" as a necessity. As I write this I think of how too often, faith and belief are confused. Belief is easy and intoxicating as silk and sunshine. Faith is difficult, challenging and both cerebral and emotional. Faith leaves the understanding of the possibility of error. In some ways, faith is a risk.
I like risk because it allows for reward.
maybe I'll come back to this, but right now I have to go make some chili. I plan to add some more dead brisket and some ribs and some other stuff.
Last week, we had a lot of happy customers. _________________ Reverse flow Sterno can

JAllen, On an interesting life.......
"Belief is easy and intoxicating as silk and sunshine."
Interesting thing about beliefs is they don't have to be true......& they can change.....sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly.......
"Faith leaves the understanding of the possibility of error."
This was always the fun thing about the Grateful Dead....
The possibility of massive failure would always exist....
But, you never know, unless you stick your neck way out there....
Simplest form of faith that I know is that ~~~>
"It will all come out in the wash"
Old saying, my grandmother, or somebody, but it really works in re: to "faith"
Enough philosophy, where's some pics of that chili ?? _________________ Have Fun Playin' with Yer Food !!!

We're missing on about 1/3 of our briskets right now. These go into the "dead brisket chili." I also toss in some bacon, some ribs, and pulled pork if it's around.
I wouldn't do it any other way. I don't like the idea of shopping for meat for chili. It starts out as some kind of wiches brew and ends up awesome.
Everyone is lovin' it.
Add some cheese and chopped onions...oh, we've added chili cheese fries that are a hit as well. _________________ Reverse flow Sterno can

Okay, as the chili is cooking in the smoker, I'm starting a list.
Interesting Life
1. Faith
2. Try lots of stuff.
3. Learn to bbq like a master.
In progress:
1. be a good parent and spouse
2. try to understand just how wacky the world is
3. understand the world political economy without kicking holes in random walls.
Left to do:
1. gardening, uh...
2. stand-up comedy
3. write something. (Internet don't count; anyone can throw $hit up here.)
4. learn trapeeze
5. carve a totem pole
6. bbq a whole yak. _________________ Reverse flow Sterno can

Stand up comedy?
Maybe you could do an 'open mike night' at Smokie's once in a while and try your hand at MC first, then it's just work on a longer routine and poof, you're a comic. _________________ Tender - Juicy - Smoky - Goodness

JAllen, your "to do" list looks good except for #2 and 3 in the In progress.
Those goals seem unattainable, as fast as things get freaky, you can't keep up.
#1 however, is a great idea.
Just don't set the bar too high, Rome wasn't built in a day. |

As the briskets are selected by friends in TX, I think it's low fat content. They're choice, but that's my guess.
Smokie's Smokin' Chili Cheese Fries.
1. Big bunch of fries on a plate.
2. Chili on top of the fries
3. Cheese on top of the chili
4. Eat and belch. _________________ Reverse flow Sterno can

Our smoker is big enough for a yak. I think we would be the first ever in the history of the world to bbq a whole yak.
Might have to cut off the head.
I like being first. _________________ Reverse flow Sterno can

I just have to find out how to be funny. I've become serious in my middle age.
I'm in mid-life crisis right now. I was on the verge of ordering a 69 Corvette from the US until I found out the import tax would have been $9000.
Now I'm trying to think of a substitute. _________________ Reverse flow Sterno can
