Buddy of mine had a 50 foot 8/3 gauge wire and gave it to me. I put a male plug on one end and two female plugs on the other. One for the welder and the other for the plasma cutter. Of course you cannot use both units at the same time.
Does anyone see an issue with this?

ToolBoxTavern, if you have the cord plugged into a dedicated circuit with its own 50amp breaker I do not see a problem. I ran 6/3 to the front of my house (about 30') and use a 20' 6/3 extension cord. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

Thanx for the reply. I was pretty sure it was good I just wanted someone else to be sure also and yes it is on its own 50 amp breaker. |

I have the same setup with a dual plug. I often leave both running with only one in full use at a time. I have had no problems. _________________

ToolBoxTavern, Are both machines rated for 50Amps?
If they are you should be good to go.
Just make sure your grounds are good and the metal boxes are also grounded, thier may be a strap on the recepticles. |

Both machines will be. I have an Horbart Iron Man 230 welder, but not the Plasma Cutter yet. It is in the making. I plan on getting Horbart Air Force 700i. Probably be next year though. Just planning ahead.
Thanx for the reply. |

I run something similar too for a smaller welder. I think mine is 70 ft of 8/3. _________________ **Steve**

| Well I've done some welding and pushed the extension cord pretty good. At first I thought it was getting hot. It was warm to the touch, but I could hold on to it and I was worried, but the ends were dead in the sun. Later when they was in the shade I really cranked it up and ran some long beads and it was just fine. You would of thought there was a fan blowing on it. |
