Hi there folks, we (me, my wife and our baby) are now 1/2 way thru out BBQ journey in Texas. I thought I`d share some bits and pieces from the trip. We are absolutely LOVING it!!
The people we meet and the food we get, COME ON! We are so moving to Texas (for real).
We started out by getting a real car, a fully loaded Chevy suburban. We then rode out into the desert to get some BBQ. The first place we tried out was Rudy`s in Houston. We had the moist brisket, baby back ribs, turkey and some sausage. We are not used to order by the pound, we use kilograms, so we ended up with a mountain of meat . We told the manager that we where on a BBQ road trip and he gave us the full tour of their shop. We loved the food and the hospitality he gave us, the only setback was that their ribs were a bit on the tough side.
Happy guy with a big truck.
On our way in to Rudy`s.
Jimi the manager showing off. That other guy was chopping away on the meat.
Pure happiness!!

After a day in Houston we really wanted to go see the yoda of the forum, namely the man himself, K.A.M. We drove down to K`s county and met up for some texmex. We had a great day down there and I have to say that K is one of the nicest guys out there!
Me and Yoda It looks like we both got some serious man tit problem going on but I promise it`s the shade
We then went up towards Lockhart and Austin. I`ll post some more tomorrow. They sure had some amazing BBQ up in Lockhart!!
This saturday there is a comp outside Houston. We are heading over there along with K and Mrs K, can`t wait!!
You on your way down Troy?
Anyway, much more to come from the road trip.

Enjoy the journey J.O. And if the cook off you are going to is at Houston Farm and Ranch, look up Texas Pepper Jelly (Craig Sharry). He's got some stuff you will enjoy. Welcome to Texas and have a great time. _________________ "I live out on the highway between insanity and Texas, and home is just a phone call away." Dub Miller

Texas 1836, it is the Harris county fair at the ranch. We visit Big Ron every chance we get and meet up with other members of the ring as well. I plan on introducing J.O. to Craig as well as my Good Friend Zilla. Hopefully several other members will be cooking as well. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

J.O., thanks for sharing. I will definitely follow this thread. As for the shadow story, those must be some awfull big trees or something to cause "shadows" like that. _________________ Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results.

Great post so far and looking forward to meeting you all. A TX cook off will likely have some of the warmest kindest people America has to offer. I am sure you will enjoy. _________________ Big Ron

I think it`s the post oak down there, they do cast a deceiving shade. I have seen guys look like small trucks because of that shade . Stay safe and keep out of the shade.
Ron, we are really looking forward to meet you over there at the comp. See you tomorrow.
We drove thru Luling on our way to Lockhart, I had no idea that lulling had the city market so we just drove past it!! They also had another place called Luling BBQ, have to try it out. We are spending a day in Luling when we get back from the cook off. We headed straight to Smitty`s market. That was something else!! The food, their pits, the people and the atmosphere was incredible. Like being trapped in a time capsule.
Some snaps from Luling. More to come in a later post.
Finally there, Smitty`s market. Maaaan was I excited! Like a kid, jumping up and down in the parking lot.
These pits have been around for a while.
It looks like props from a movie. Love it, love it!!
Smoky, juicy meat just waiting for daddy.
Mommy got some too. We tried as much as possible but I wish we had room for more.
They sure had their wood arranged out there.
Stay tuned, much more to come _________________

J.O., you have it going on. Road trip, new country to do it in, BBQ, Texas........well not a perfect trip, the family enjoying it too.
I'd change places in a heart beat. Enjoy and drive safe, no following your nose, cause it smells like Q, rides. _________________ GreenSmoker / Steve C.

I went to high school with one of the managers at that Rudy's. He occasionally hooks us up with free bbq. Enjoy your time here, especially in the hill country. If you get tired of bbq (if that's even possible) I could give you recommendations to restaurants here in town. _________________ Kids call me paycheck, 'cause i'm so money.

Well I wish I was Jan, but as you put it, Im still stuck on mamas tit Its only a 12 hour drive for me buddy, I wish I could have made this trip, Im sure sometime in the future our paths will cross. Glad to hear you are having a great time and enjoying some Texas Q. The comp tomorrow should be a great time, Ill try to call on Kevins phone sometime tomorrow and chat with you a bit. What you really need to do to make the trip a complete success is get Kevin to get a couple of those earrings in his ears like you have in yours If you can make that happen, then you are like the champion of all champions! Be safe in your travels brother and enjoy the rest of your trip!! _________________ X2 Finished Build

I got a deal for you: If you break loose from your nose ring and come down here we can use that for Kevin`s ear. Win win situation
Seriously, look forward to talking to you tomorrow. _________________
