Team Tornadic BBQ had a great first time cook. Thank you to all the other teams that went out of their way to help and lend advise to some first timers. After judging for the last two years, I now have such a great deal of respect for the work it takes each weekend to come out and cook at these events. I belive all judges should try as early as they can to cook at an event on their own. Most judges wanting to become a master judge are asked to participate with a team for one competition, in order to become a master judge. Just being a team volunteer, carring out the teams trash dosn't give you a full understanding of what it really takes to cook at an event. You need to get yourself into the competition from start (shopping for your meats) to finish (after the awards, cleaning up your campsite) to really understand where these teams are coming from. I was told before this weekend that if I went through with this just as the teams do every weekend, that I would be alot more willing to hand out 9's. Well, I got to tell you, that statement rings true in my ears the day after leaving the contest. I really think that this has made me a better judge. I look forward to seeing you all back out on the trail again soon.
Sincerely, Aaron, Team Tornadic BBQ, Mounds, OK.
