Well my cooking team mate has been doing a lot of Dutch Oven cooking recently and been teasing me with taste testing it all, so today I followed up on the research I did last night and made some artisanal bread and a soup for tonights dinner for the family.

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Hearty-Potato-Bacon-and-Onion-Soup/Detail.aspx
Everyone appeared to like both, the bread disappeared as quickly as it could be cut and buttered, still warm in the middle, and a little American sprinkled on the top of the soup with some bacon bits made for a hearty meal.
Next time I cook I promise I might get the camera out before I start, and during the cook and after we finish! _________________ Here's a change Robert.

Might have happened, might not.
Still looks like a great lunch for a day like today.
Currently -8 degrees, -23 with wind chill.
Predicted high today is 10 degrees, -4 with wind chill. |

Only a vegetarian would consider Potato, Bacon and Onion Soup an "other meat". Just sayin'..... _________________ Mike

Thanks for that! Got one started after dinner (half a recipe to test out) that I just put in the fridge for tomorrow or Wednesday.
I've been having fun (masochistic fun) lately playing with bread recipes, this looks like a super easy one.
Now I just need to convince the wife I haven't lost my mind (again)... |

Here are some of todays no kneed bread.
Portioned into 4 boules
Crossed ready for the oven.
Bridged a little, singing as they say.

Nice boules SoEzzy!!
Are you gonna make some leftover brisket stew, in your dutch oven, to fill them up with?
Bread makes every meal better. |

Hope you don't mind me threadjacking just a bit... It is your fault afterall.
Results from the baking tonight. Not quite as dark as yours, but they look good to me.
After the fact (re-reading today) I discovered I messed up and used bleached AP flour and the recipe you linked specifically calls for unbleached. Oh well...

I cooked the first days ones 450 for 30 minutes, they were not cooked quite enough, todays were great with an extra 5 minutes, the crunch of the crust, soft and pliable middle, the only problem was I have to make more for tomorrow!
Even the kids have said they liked the bread again... they had gotten a little sick of my old recipe! _________________ Here's a change Robert.

Did you try subbing in 1/3 whole wheat flour, and adding 1 tsp of honey, 1 tsp of vinegar, and a little beer? _________________ 22" Weber Smokey Mountain + Weber Spirit |

Do what I did... Ask Tom C for his sourdough recipe. It is simple. It's is just some starter, bread flour, water and salt.
He and I make it by hand, no mixer. _________________ Whether you think you can or, whether you think you can't, you're right! |
