I live in central Indiana and am not a welder. I am interested in having a custom smoker built. If only I lived in Texas I would have my pick of builders. As it is the only one I know of is Southern Yankee in Anderson, IN and they seem to specialize more trailer-sized pits. I don't need anything that big. Something between 500 and 1000 square in., with 3/16" or thicker steel would probably do it.
I have considered a cheap chargriller type and insulating and modding it but I'd rather just spend the money for something that is ready to go from the start. If I'm going to put work into something I'd rather just learn to build one myself.
Anyone know of a reputable custom pit builder in the midwest? _________________ GO COLTS!

The people at peoria custom cookers are very reputable. They have a 24" x 48" backyard smoker available with many custom options. The craftsmanship on their cookers is impressive. |

There is no better pit builder in the Midwest than Peoria Custom Cookers. Dr. Cusack and his fabricators are second to none and the quality and craftmanship of the pits he builds are fantastic. His backyard models and the trailer cookers are built to the highest standard. _________________ "It Ain't Braggin If You Done It"

There's a Texas pitbuilder in St. Louis I'd be honored to compete for your business. _________________ D. Tillery

MrCustomSteel builds a pit that is second to none. I've seen 4 pits that he has built and they are all out FRIGGIN STANDING! (I'm partial to mine ) Pulls great! Looks great! and It Cooks GREAT! An outstanding guy to work with, a man of honor and integrity. He took my ideas and ran with them as we collaborated on the build of my pit. He brings years of pit building to the table with lessons learned.
No matter who you select you don't want this to be their first build as you'll have to live through their learning curve.
Sorry if this sounds like a commercial, I just can't say enough about the man or the pit that he built me!

Thank you everyone, it looks like I have more options than I thought. I will have a look at all the suggestions and see where to go from there. MrCustomSteel I lived in MO for a few years in a little town called Bonne Terre and have been to plenty of Cardinals games over the years. Still have lots of family in STL, Kansas City, and St. Charles. It is good to know a pit builder and member of The Ring is so close. _________________ GO COLTS!
