This question is for information on what people expect from a day of road side vending. I just did four days and would like to get an idea what others expectations (realistic) compared to the results we just accomplished.

If you were road side vending what would you expect to have in sales or what would you consider a good day?

As you know I haven't done roadside vending yet.But my buddy that does told me that $500. Or more is what he considers "making it" depending on cost control that sounds about right

We've done it twice now, 1st time we grossed $1100 and the second time right at $1000. I can't see how someone can make money by doing $500 in sales when you account the the time and expense.

This is what I wanted to see some dialogue on this type of information. I am setting up in a parking lot of the local Sears as well as a carpeting store. We also set up in local hardware store and in 4 days we sold $2500 worth of product. No fees and no extra expenses. I plan on doing this when we don't have any catering or fairs and festivals. My nephew and his wife are going to be doing it will provide them with some consistent income as well as generate some additional cash flow. Thanks for the comments.

Assuming you have a good spot, $500 is a good day, $1000 is a great day. With a bad spot expect $200 or less.

Many established permanent take-out restaurants do not do $1000 per day.

I agree, we set up wknds in March and April and my best day was $650. That's too much time and work for too little return so I've chosen not to street vend anymore and put that money into marketing to get more private gigs.

I think you have to have the right location. We are going to do some vending on Sunday afternoons and maybe some Saturdays as well. I have already got permission from owners of places in excellent areas. Main intersections, high traffic main roads, easy in and out access. I think that has a major role to play in sales. Also, once you get people used to seeing you on a particular day that will get repeat business. I already have a brick and mortar place so I can spread the word that way also.

For my money $600 is a good day. It is better to have my equipment being used than setting at the house. I now have people calling me everyday asking when and where we will be set up next. I am going to keep doing it this summer to see how much repeat business we build up. We have a loyal following and it is growing. If I can get $800 per day I will be very happy.

BlueGrass, are you meaning $600 gross sales or profit? A lot I guess also depends on how much food you prepare and if you sell it all or not. For my vending experience I have prepped and cooked for 13 hours all night then go set up in the morning and my wife comes and works vending for 8 hours along with one other person helping us. It keeps 3 of us busy all day and then the clean up. If I were to pay my wife and myself minimum wage I would be lucky as a business to break even on $600 sales and probably would not.
