With all the apples we got at the orchard last weekend I thought why not DO up (hehe) Beertooth's Caramel Apple Crisp (BCAC). It looked so good I fired up the DO.
Recipe Stuff. I used more apples than the recipe calls for because these apples are on the small side.
While I was prepping for the cook Toot came in with a concerned look on her face. She said "Dada my laptop stopped working". So all forward cooking movement stopped and we sat down and smoked over the "laptop" to see what the problem could be. So I put my non-computer-skills skills to the test and popped open the battery compartment and replaced the batteries. Worked like a charm..laptop fixed..smile on Toot's face.
Apples with the mixture in the buttered up DO.
The topping.
All ready to go!
Put it on for an hour so in about thirty-forty mins from now she should be ready.

Looks really good jeepdad!
I have to do that again soon. My wife and son loved it!
I'll be looking forward to the finished pics! You do have some vanilla ice cream on hand right? _________________ Camp Chef Pro90 Stove w/ Griddle

You know Beertooth I just checked and no ice cream! That's just wrong.
Grilling some chicken with Head Country rub and sauce while DOing.
Finished.
Had grilled chicken, redskin taters, greenbeans, and Mrs Jeepdad made a huge batch of applesauce.
The BCAC was a little to mushy for me. I think maybe I used the wrong apples or to much butter or something not sure. The flavor was outstanding just not crazy about the texture. Mrs Jeepdad and the girls liked it. Will try again tweaking something.
Beertooth what was your texture like?

The top of mine got crunchy after I let it rest a bit with the lid off. Also I didn't put as much caramel topping on. Just a drizzle. _________________ Camp Chef Pro90 Stove w/ Griddle

Looks like a great meal on this end.i love caramel. Maybe adding some more crunchy topping would help your not liking the texture.I planned on making supper in the DO but arrived home late. |

jeepdad, awesome looking meal and a fantastic job on the Apple crisp.
All I would be needing is some Homemade vanilla ice cream and then it would be lights out. Nicely done my man _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

Jeepdad
The meal looks great!
I cooked some chicken breasts on the ol' Chargriller recently myself. Mrs. Beertooth used some of them for chicken soup. Mmm!
I think next time I make the BCAC I will let it rest without a lid to crisp up a little, then add caramel later. Maybe that will help the crunch a bit. _________________ Camp Chef Pro90 Stove w/ Griddle

Thanks Beertooth I think next time I will let it rest longer and back off the caramel. I used 12 oz like the recipe called for. It is to good a recipe not to make it work.
morick, good point I think i will add more crunchies next time.
k.a.m., Thanks. I can't believe we were out of ice cream...man!
SmokeHound, Thanks!
Beertooth, I love grilled chicken especially with a little kicked up rub or sauce. Tonight I am doing a Beer Can Chicken. Its been in the brine overnight.
