Its been dropping into the low 50s...maybe upper 40's at night lately so I figured its time to start on the "one pot meals" that are so great in the fall and winter. Pulled out the camp oven I got from Christmas and fired it up.
Everything went well, stew smelled insane. I left to run to the store and came back 30 minutes later and could smell it in the street! Almost as good as smelling the smoker going...
Here are the pics...a day of firsts
First time using this oven. Haven't used one of these since my scouting days...
Stew meat browning w/ salt and pepper.
Added water, onions, bay leaves, worchestershire, paprika, salt and pepper, and allspice...I think other things too. I forget.
Shot when I came home. Smells delicious! Needed more coals...
Mean while in the bat-cave...another first! Made some bread. This 8 qt Lodge "used" to be my stew pot...used it for bread instead.
Cooling. Crust was dynamite!
Just about done. Added some carrots and taters somewhere inbetween pics. Celery added before this shot...
Close up.
Bread was great. I liked the texture.
Very crusty...a great bread for stew! It was probably in the upper 50s when this was done. Ate it outside and it warmed us up!
Later that day...another first. New recipe for banana cake. Cooked in a #8 skillet. Pics do not do this justice...
Went very fast...
Took this the day before...the pics suck. Especially the plated pic. Killer fish sandwich though...
Breaded tilapia cooked up with a little butter on a #14 griddle. Corn and some homemade fries too...

Wow! Lots of interest in the stew and what not...I'll dig up the recipes later...busy day tomorrow. I'll post them up tomorrow night after work if I don't get a chance in the A.M.
I'll tell you now...the fish was prebreaded from Cosco. I know...its looks good but no recipe for that. |
