Golden Rule - Calera, AL Location ( Birmingham Area) - Great

I got a chance to stop in to the Golden Rule in Calera, AL right off of I-65 exit 231 recently. I was worried the place might be a disappointment, based on how some of the other locations had gone down some over the years. The place was almost empty, which worried me even more. I ordered a jumbo pork sandwich, outside chopped. I watched the guy pull a pork butt off of the warming smoker/grill and cut off a shank. I was not disappointed. The sandwich was heavy like a brick. It had good smoky flavor and the sauce was great. It was one of the best pork sandwiches I've had in quite a while. I'll be back.

Thought this place closed long time ago. Used to eat there back in the late 60's and 70's. At that time "Q"was great ...will have to try again

Don't ever think about stopping at the one in Fort Payne on I-59. Complete garbage.

I have found other GR locations to be quite poor too. They are not all the same. However, the Calera location was good.

Last time I stopped there, the service was great, the Q was poor.

The GR location in Clarksville, TN was so good it closed.
