this is a great site that is full od info. I have been cooking/smoking for many years but not at a level that I wish to start getting into. I am in the mist of buidling a 250 galloon lp tank for a cooker and will be using a design that I have thought true using some of the techniques that others have incorporated in their smokers, I am just having trouble whether or not to use an offset design or a rear mounted firebox that runs the length of the cooker long ways and what size it should be (The firebox, stack and heat transition tube) evryone says that the firebox needs to be at least 1/3 the size of your cooker is this true and if so what about the other sizes ie. stacks, and heat transfer tube.
I love good ole BBQ in general mainly the sweeter versions that have a rick thick style sauce cooked with hickory, this style is popular around our area here in North East Arkansas. any help would be appreciated. |

Welcome to the ring paulhayes, looking forward to seeing some pics of your cooks And following your cooker build I saw that you got some of your answers from the pit calculator and Tom. If you are wanting to go with a DP clone style then I would use 6'' pipes for my intake tubes. You can also incorporate a crossover deflector to even out your grates. Here is a link to some pics of a DP cooker. Also if you post your questions in the cooker section you will most likely get a lot of help.
