Below is a list of Custom BBQ Pit Makers that I have been compiling since 2005. The intention of this list is to provide basic contact information of custom pit builders, to anyone thinking of buying a heavy duty/handmade BBQ Pit, with a few exceptions. Feel free to suggest others not listed here. Thanks to all the guys that have sent new names to me. As of 1-10-2010 all of the links below were working.

Tips on using this list.

- For most of us buying a handmade BBQ pit is a big investment so take your time, do your homework and look at all of the products the different builders have to offer and what the various pits cost.

- Post questions on the forum about options (needed and wanted) to get some feedback from more experienced folks.

- Make a decision on a price limit.

- Consider which design makes the most sense for the way YOU will use the pit.

- Start with the builders closest to your home state to help save on shipping costs. Then study the products and prices, call and ask questions to determine which builder can give you what you want.

- Make a detailed specification list and send it to several builders for quotes. Get exact quotes in writing before any work starts.

- Don't let a builder talk you into or out of anything. Youíre spending the money not them so make sure you get what you want and donít be afraid to walk away and find another builder.

- If youíre not comfortable with a builder try another one.

I would be willing to bet there are hundreds of welding shops that build awesome bbq pits that we may never know about. I know a guy out in Castroville, TX who makes the most incredible pits I've ever seen but only does a few a year. He could have a huge customer base if he opened a shop but he likes to hunt instead. Oh well!

Yeah, that's like Jamie Geer. He makes only a few pit a year. They are over the top. Powder coated...the works.

I recently posted a question about powder coated grills. I was thinking about the ceramic coating. Is this what the custom builder uses or regular powder coat in varios colors? Reason I am asking is the regular powder coat would be cheaper if it works

Custom builders typically use Rustoleum High Temp (1200-1300 Deg.) paint in BBQ Black. Powder coating and enamel are to expensive for large production pits of any type.

Peoria Custom Cookers should be on the list, http://www.peoriacustomcookers.com They build some really nice pits. We just ordered a 30" x 96" cooker from them for the Caribbean BBQ Association.

We've got one quote so far for $1800 from Peoria to San Juan, including the paperwork. We are waiting for another quote.

I would pull Bates Pitts out of the list personally. He is selling pits and not producing them. PM me for info.

River city- lots of folks sell pits as opposed to making them! For instance, Okiejay is a distributor for Diamond Plate Products...............

I imagine you mentioned this because there are quality, delivery, or other problems you did not mention?
