I hardly ever get to this section and when I saw your thread I just had to respond with my condolences to you and your family.

It is never easy losing a loved one no matter if they have been ill for years or a sudden death, it is still very hard for us left behind. We are left with asking "WHY??"

Many have posted (in this thread) the loss of a loved one recently and I am no different. My mom passed away 4 years ago Thanksgiving day. That was always the day I put up my outdoor Christmas decorations....I haven't since. Just haven't felt like doing it.

But now my twin grandkids (boy & girl) that live nearby are getting to the age (5 in Dec) that they REALLY get excited about the holidays. So I will draw strength from them to go on with a family tradition and leave the loss of my mother not forgotten but in my memory forever.

May the lord be with you and your family Mike as you move forward from here.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the kind words and for those of you who have recently lost or have loved ones who are in poor health; my sympathies go out to you as well.

Some of you may not know (although I've mentioned it before) I didn't meet my biological dad until 2002. I knew of him, but had never tried to find him. My step dad was a mean SOB and blocked every attempt I made. It wasn't until my youngest sister sought me out that we actually met. I wish we would have had more time, but I'm thankful for the time we did have.

Also I didn't mention this in my original post, but I lost my mother on Friday December 12, sixteen years ago. Apparently the 12th of December is not my day. It's like some sort of Shakespearean tragedy. Of course, for many years Christmas was a sad time for me, however with the help of my wife who is an absolute Christmas nut, I eventually warmed back up to the holidays--especially after we had children and I could share in their joy and excitement.

Today, I'm determined not to let this sour me on the holidays this time. I know my dad would want us to be happy and celebrate, so I'm going to be as happy as I can be and try to enjoy myself.

Tonight we are going to see the Christmas lights in a little town called McAdenville and on Monday (first day the kids are out of school) we are having Christmas Movie Marathon Day--an entire day and night of Christmas movie favorites. Plus I'm looking forward to some prime rib and cherry pie on Christmas day, so I don't have time to be moping around and feeling sorry for myself!

Very sorry for your loss. The thing with cancer to me is that it seems you have time to prepare but you really can't. I lost my mother this past spring very suddenly and now my father is on his way to the cancer center in Tampa for the last possible treatment for prostate cancer that has spread thru out his bone structure. As much as I love him, with all the pain he is in even with the meds. I wish him relief from the suffering. Best regards in your time of sorrow...

I found this poem on another website that I frequently read. I thought of you & this thread the instant that I saw it. I am again sorry for your loss. I hope this poem helps & Merry Christmas to you & yours.

" I'm Spending Christmas with Jesus this Year"

I see the countless Christmas trees
around the world below
with tiny lights like heaven stars
reflecting on the snow

The sight is so spectacular
Please wipe away that that tear
For I'm spending Christmas
with Jesus Christ this year

I hear the many Christmas songs
That people hold so dear
O', the sounds of music can't compare
with the Christmas choir up here.

For I have no words to tell you
of the joy their voices bring
for it's beyond description
to hear the angels sing.

I know how much you miss me,
I see the pain inside your heart.
but, through our memories so dear..
We're never far apart.

I can't tell you of the splendor
or the peace here in this place
Can you just imagine Christmas
with Our Savior.......face-to-face.

I'll ask him to light your spirit
As I tell him of your Love.
Then I'll pray for 'One another'
As you lift your eyes above.

So please let your heart be joyful
and let your spirit sing
for I'm spending Christmas in heaven
and I'm walking with the king.

Mike,
Just a quick note to find out how the movie night went for you & the family. I know the holiday was a tough time, but I hope all went well.
