My veticle Brinkman has done me well over the years but it requires a lot of tending. I am ready to upgrade. I am looking at the Stump's 223.

Anyone have any wisdom they would like to share? The "set it and forget it" aspect of the cooker really intrigues me.

Feeding the cooker all night has lost it's allure.

I have a GF 223. I love it!! The set it and forget it is priceless, althought abrupt changes in wind have adjusted the temp a few degrees but nothing drastic. I have had a "bridge" in the charcoal chute just once, but that was my fault for not breaking up the very large lumps. They're are a couple of vids on youtube about the stumps. Wade made them, pretty good demos. Wouldn't give mine up for nothing!!!!!!!!!!

I have an "older" Elite 7 that I have cooked/competed with for nearly a year now, and I am most pleased... Great smoker, lower fuel consumption (and costs), and a lot more sleep!! 223 model will be great for around the house and/or competing with... Spend the extra $$ and get the Guru DigiQue II... You won't regret adding that to your smoker...

I have the original GF223 model. It is a great smoker and holds temps rock solid. There is a lot of information on the Stumps Forum at: http://www.phpbbplanet.com/stump/index.php?mforum=stump
I hope this helps.
Thanks
Mike

Gentleman,

I appreciate the info. One of the parameters I am interested in is the "set it and forget". Will I be able to get some sleep?? Can I get it stablized and then go to bed?

I look forward to your comments.

Absolutely! Once you get the intake valve set for your desired temp, you are done with the exception of adding smoke wood into the ash pan as desired.

love my 223! You can add some small wood chunks as you pour in your lump to get more smoke flavor while you sleep!javascript:emoticon(':D')

I've also got an older one well it was a year in June gf222cm and it is wonderful. I'd like one of the newer versions just because they are larger but it would be hard to part with the one I have for it is great. Set the pitminder guru and light then don't worry it is on set-point within thirty minutes typically and that is where it remains. Very Happy Smile Cool

I use a stumps legacy model and a stoker, with stokerlog to graph and monitor my cooks.

Your basically making a stumps into a digitally controlled pit that rivals the big boys like Southern Pride and Ole Hickory for 1/10th the cost.

Rock solid temps as long as you have fuel in the chute. In 40 degree weather I am seeing 20+ hours burn time at 225 with 10 ounds of quality lump.
