I am new to shopping at Gordon Food Service (just started going there last winter). I grabbed a bag of GFS lump hardwood charcoal. It was 10.99 for a 20 lbs. bag. Anyone ever use it...your thoughts?

GFS lump or Royal Oak Lump?

My GFS sells Royal Oak Lump and that is all I have ever used. I like it and lots of folks use it.

It's GFS brand lump. My GFS has stopped carrying RO brand. They have GFS lump, GFS briquets and some Kingsford

I used some a few weeks ago and got a lot of ash flying around. Burned decent & with good heat, but the ashes were bad.

I just bought a bag of lump from GFS a couple of weeks ago and the entire bag was all 1" - 1 1/2" pieces. A lot of the stuff fell right through the grate. I almost took it back, but I needed it now kind of thing and found a way to make it work. Last year I bought it from GFS and it was decent stuff. Maybe just a bad bag.
