Does anyone have any experience with American Barbecue System cookers? A friend is interested in these but has not been able to find anyone with first hand knowledge.

They are new to the market (maybe 6 months to a year) and not in use much. They have a couple of compitition cooks selling them and talking them up, but I do not know if they are using them in comps. They have not been around long enough to know how well they will hold up in the long run. Could be a very nice cooker, just a little too early to tell.

My 2 cents,
Jay

We have cooked against the ABS cooking team (formally Music City Pig Pals) and Lee and Bobby does well with the ABS cookers. He uses a pit boss (around $3200 I believe) and one of the smaller cookers for comps.

From just looking them over they look well built and as far as I can tell they are pretty good on fuel consumption. I really like the pit boss as a rotissere (sp).

You can contact Lee using the link above and I am sure he can help you out.

Lee and Bobby are the two cooks I was talking about. I did not know they were now using them in comps. I won't get into details here, but I put limited value in their approval of the cookers.
Your's is the first opinion on the cookers that I put any value in. If you do get one, please let us know how you like it.

Thanks,
Jay

But their web site says:

Welcome to Bobbie & Lee McWright's home on the web for Music City Catering. Across the USA, you will find that our name has become synonymous with quality B.B.Q.

If it's known across the USA, it has to be good, right? Laughing

Never heard of them myself.........................

Music City Pig Pals have a terrific reputation in the competitive BBQ community. They have won many many contests, and are considered great cooks and great people.

Jay, why do you suspect they are not sincere in their endorsement?

I'm cool with that Jeff!

Never hurts to get a celebrity endorsement of a new product! Wink Very Happy

I'm still waiting for some big cooker company to call me up and offer a free cooker to use. I'm not known across the USA though- yet! Laughing
