I don't know, looks like you had a ring in there. Maybe lower your temp to 225 for the first few hours. Once internal temp hits about 140 or so, your ring will be pretty much set. Longer it's below ...

12 hours is definetly doable. I get packers from Wal mart and (not bragging just relaying statements) produce some "damn thats good" brisket.

Don't forget some of the community technical colleges offer welding and machine shop courses and will let you construct your own project providing you get it done during the course term.
