IMO a Tri Tip is the wrong choice if you want well done beef. It can get a bit tough and dry if you aren't careful! Good luck and hope to see some pics!

That is a nice looking drum!
I wouldn't worry about the smoke leaking out the lid. It has to exhaust somewhere and if the temp isn't dropping or climbing you should be just fine!

If you do decide to use the stove cement, I would only use it on the outside of the barrels just to be safe. Cool

Spot weld them, and them seal your gaps with the old style red and black JB Weld, available at Wally World. Good to 2000 degrees.

Just a thought, but you could always weld her with a few tacks and then seal her up with some stove putty...not ideal, but it works. Cool
