I have heard of people using refractory bricks in their fireboxes, i would assume that refractory concrete would work the same. The bricks are good at insulating and retaining heat.

If you look closly at a piece of hickory, cut end it has small dots all in the grain, it is very distinct.

1st no space
2nd 1/4 inch
3rd 1/2 inch
