 The 4th Annual World BBQ Association sanctioned World BBQ Championship was held on July 6, 2002 in Imperial Beach, CA. Teams from Switzerland, Germany, Estonia and all over the US competed in the event. The Swiss Barbecue Artists won Grand Champion and the Estonian team won Reserve. Nashville, TN based Music City Pig Pals finished third. The motto of the WBQA is "Make People Happy With Fire, Food and Fun". They certainly did that in Imperial Beach.
